Do I Really Want to Know Him?
That I may
know Him, and the power of His resurrection ... Phil 3:10
|
|
I hear the Lord saying
that He is raising up a new generation, like the disciples of Jesus,
who will drop everything to walk and talk with Him - for life. He is
raising up those who are anxious to spend every free moment with Him.
The disciples were absolutely in love with Him and were devastated
when He said He was going to leave them. They forgot
every other priority, cleared their schedule and followed Him. There is
going to be a great re-positioning and those whose passion is not for
Christ Himself will be replaced by those who really want to know Him above
all else. Many who appear ill equipped will be promoted.

|
After 3 perfect years,
He said
He was leaving; they could not go with Him now, but would follow Him
afterward. They felt like they had been thrust through with
knife. He said He was going to prepare a place for them and would
come for them later, that where He is, they may be also. How could
He leave them
after 3 wonderful years? He knew that His disciples already had a
passion birthed in them that no persecution, no ridicule, no wet blankets
could dampen.
He said if we know Him,
we
know God. It is true. He said we will do even greater works than
He did because He is going to the Father. How can that be? He said not to worry and
He promised that whatever we ask in His Name, He will do it. He will
send the Spirit of Truth and He will be with us.

"At that day, you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I
in you. He who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him
and manifest myself to him." (Jn 14:20-21) What does
"manifest
Myself" mean? What will our relationship be then?
When
Jesus manifested Himself to and through the woman at the well, He smacked
"religious legalism" in the face. She was a woman who was rejected by
Jews because of her race, rejected by religious leaders because of sexism,
rejected by neighbors on account of her serial marriages and for being a
failure at love! But the woman at the well became the first missionary,
appointed by Jesus himself and she reached her town the same day! Jesus
said, "If they are not against us, they are for us." Many are called, but
today, few chose their calling.
Where are those
good Samaritans, who stop for the one who is hurting and wounded?
Jesus is calling out a
new generation, young and old, who crave a new
relationship of abiding in Him. Those who abide in Him
and His words abide in them, are fruitful. We will ask whatever we
wish, and it will be given to us - because we ask for what He wants.
This generation will not live for position, power and prestige but only to
abide in His presence everyday. I heard Jesus saying that He has
spoken all this so that our joy can be full! Joy is abiding,
worshipping Jesus, hearing His voice, building His Kingdom and His
purposes.
This generation will
arise early to pray, but prayer will be listening to Him,
getting our assignment a-fresh from Him everyday, constantly tuning in to
His agenda and forgetting our own. We will be truly faithful friends
who are never satisfied but always want to know Him more. Jesus said, "No longer
have I called you servants ... but I have called you friends." (Jn
15:15) Then He commanded us to love one another and to glorify God.
As He talked of leaving,
He began to pray for all of us - that we would be one with Him. |
"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe
in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father,
just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the
world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that
you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me.
May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that
you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me."
(Jn 17:20-23)

Jesus Christ prayed, "Father, I desire that they ... may be with
Me where I am, that they may behold the glory which You have given Me
... that the love with which You have loved Me may be in them, and I in
them." Our desire is to be one spirit with Him. (1 Cor.
6:17) His love constrains us to share His love in every possible way,
everywhere and at any cost. He is truly our first love. We cannot help
but share His love when so many are starving for Him, His free gift of
salvation, His forgiveness, His unconditional love and acceptance.
Many "ministers" have no
passion for souls and are not winning anyone to Christ.
Jesus wanted an intimate
relationship with each of them. He wanted to have a special supper together.
He washed their feet. John laid his head on His chest and heard
His heartbeat. I can't imagine any goal but spending forever and ever with
Him. Jesus' last words before His death were about us being one with
Him, abiding in Him, sharing in His love and His glory. John 14-17 are
His message to us today. (Who will lay down their compulsions to be
"productive" and lay on their face, seeking Him and Him alone?)
As
I think about what Jesus prayed ... that we would abide in Him ... I have to
ask what Jesus Christ wants most in a relationship... |
- Is it about large numbers of people, big churches, big ministries and big offerings?
- Is it about which liturgy, doctrine, theology or which denomination is
right?
- Is it about exercising gifts, praying in tongues, spiritual
warfare or even serving Him?
What if what Jesus wants most is for me to want to
really want to know Him?
What if He wants me to sit at His feet like Mary? to drink His
living water like the Samaritan woman? to eat His fresh bread?
to wait one hour with Him while He prays (through me)? to drop
everything and to follow Him? to sell the material and go for the
invisible spiritual? to lay my head on His chest? to hear
His voice? to abide in Him? to be one with Him? to pant
for Him, like a deer after water? to worship Him at home alone?
to be one with Him? to rest in Him? to be a Bride to the
Bridegroom? Do I really want to KNOW Him?
God will pour out His Spirit on a new
generation of liberators.
They may not be the ones with the great business cards, videos or church
growth. They may be the ones with tattoos, piercings, crazy hair or dress.
They are not afraid of sinners, they know their language and they will do
whatever it takes to destroy the works of darkness. They are willing to
admit their own need for ministry and receive a new heart.
Many will have to lay
down every talent and knowledge
they think they have on the altar
daily, in deference to depending on the Anointing to break every yoke. God
may want to heal as they kneel, sing, dance like David danced, use
mud and spit or absolute silence. They
know demons are real, that deliverance is for today and they pray a little
differently, but the devil is afraid of them and bows his knees to the
mention of the Name of Jesus Christ!
What if He Jesus promotes those who really want to KNOW
Him?
If you really want to know Jesus better
